Who We Are & What We Believe
Grace United Methodist Church has roughly 300 members with an average worship attendance of just over 100 each Sunday. It is one of 52 United Methodist churches on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. There are 43 UM churches in Accomack and 9 in Northampton. These churches comprise the Eastern Shore District, the oldest of 16 districts in the Virginia Annual Conference. There are over 7,000 Methodists in the Eastern Shore District. (
The Virginia Annual Conference is one of 57 Conferences (or Regions) in the United States presided over by 46 Bishops. There are 76 Annual conferences in Africa, Europe and the Philippines presided over by 20 Bishops.
Every four years, delegates from Annual Conferences all over the world meet at a General Conference to make changes or modifications in the rules which govern the United Methodist Church. The United Methodist Church is “connectional” in nature, i.e., it is an organization by which all church are “connected” to each other. (
In Matthew 28, God defines our Mission in the Great Commission, “Go therefore, Make Disciples, Baptizing them in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey all that I have commanded of you.”
The Vision Statement of Grace is: Building relationships in our community through prayers, love and action as we become followers of Christ.
